Encompassing the former river port towns of Minato-machi, Tamai-machi, and Motohama-cho, the Kawara-machi area features nostalgic street scenes with old-fashioned lattice-walled houses and storehouses standing side by side.
This street attracts visitors of all ages with shops selling “Gifu Uchiwa” (flat fan) and Japanese sweets. Restaurants and galleries built from converted old houses are also popular attractions.

Nagara River Cormorant Fishing succeeds the ancient fishing method from 1300 years ago.
It runs from May 11 to October 15. The climax of cormorant fishing called So-garami takes you to an ethereal world.
