"Kawara-machi" area

The street that goes from the boarding area of the Cormorant Fishing Viewing Boat in the south side of Nagara Bridge is commonly known as "Kawara-machi" ("Riverside Town"). It maintains old-fashioned appearance with its lattice-walled houses
In Kawara-machi can be found shops for the making and selling of traditional craftwork "Gifu Uchiwa" (flat fans), and also traditional Japanese confectioners selling the famous Gifu "Ayu-gashi" (Ayu-shaped sweets). The appearance of the shops gives the area a fondly nostalgic atmosphere.
In addition to these traditional attractions, there are also new fashionable restaurants and cafes built in old townhouses that are becoming a popular attraction in recent years. The area is perfectly suited for a walk before Ukai watching as it is very close to the boarding area of the Cormorant Fishing Viewing Boat.
